Possibly a Dumb Question But that is what I am here for. :)

Naturally I have only observed light being manipulated in a lensing effect via either a medium change or heat. Why wouldn’t the heat of a star produce the lensing effect without having to throw in SpaceTime or Gravity? Has there been any lensing effect produced by planets? The only lensing I have read about that deals with the lensing of a planet is in relationship to the star it orbits. I am not sure the heat produced by the star and the reflection of the light off the planet couldn’t take that into effect. I would appreciate any feed back as to why the heat is not taken into account. It would seem easy enough to prove by applying heat to a vacuum that light was passing through.
